Does laser eye surgery hurt?

Does laser eye surgery hurt? Certainly not.

During the procedure, local anaesthetic drops ensure that this is a comfortable procedure. No injections are involved.

Postoperatively, however, the situation is a little different with the different techniques involved.

With LASIK and SMILE, the eye is a little uncomfortable for about three hours afterwards. The next morning, it should be totally pain-free.

With PRK, for the first three days, a contact lens is used on the eye, to ensure comfort.

Thereafter, the eye rapidly becomes comfortable over the next day or two and one is able to resume work about four or five days post-operatively.
