Welcome to Eye Institute’s Dry Eye Clinic

We specialise in the comprehensive assessment and management of dry eyes and ocular surface discomfort.

Understanding Dry Eye Disease

Dry eye disease has many potential causes and often an individual has several of these causes at the same time. This leads to a disruption in tear film homeostasis, causing symptoms such as tear film instability, hyperosmolarity, ocular surface inflammation, damage, and neurosensory abnormalities.

Our vision to give people a quality of life they thought they could never have, underpins everything we do at Eye Institute. We restore a person’s most valued sense, and thereby their independence.

Our Comprehensive Approach

At our clinic, our optometrists perform an extensive range of tests to evaluate both the ocular surface and surrounding structures. This detailed assessment helps us develop a personalised treatment plan, which is discussed with the patient during their visit to offer a range of options to manage and alleviate symptoms.

Clinic History

Our specialty dry eye clinic was established in November 2015 in response to the growing number of patients presenting with ocular surface symptoms. In July 2017, the TFOS DEWS II report introduced a universal definition of dry eye as a multifactorial disease, offering new insights into assessment and treatment. Shortly thereafter, Professor Jennifer Craig, a key researcher behind the report, helped establish the Dry Eye and Allergy Centre of Excellence (DEACE), now shortened to Eye Institute Dry Eye Clinic, our visionary rejuvenation spa.
