Dr Reeves has advanced training in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma. He offers a variety of laser and surgical treatments including minimally invasive glaucoma surgery.

He enjoys passing on his ophthalmic knowledge and has been involved in teaching medical students, registrars, optometrists, general practitioners and other health professionals.

He has had ongoing involvement in research since medical school and has authored several peer-reviewed scientific papers as well as presenting at national and international conferences.

Dr. Reeves studied medicine at the University of Otago and graduated in 1998. He honed his skills in Palmerston North and Christchurch before heading to the UK, where he met his future wife in Cornwall.

He trained in Ophthalmology in the northwest of England, gaining a Fellowship from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. His UK training involved working both in large university teaching hospitals and smaller district general hospitals. This gave him a broad ophthalmic education with exposure to a wide range of eye diseases. He then returned to New Zealand in 2012 to undertake a glaucoma fellowship in Wellington.

He was in private practice in Wellington for two years until taking up a position at the Manukau Superclinic at the start of 2016.

Glaucoma diagnosis and management

Dr Reeves’ years of training and clinical experience help him to tailor treatments to each patient and where they are in their journey with glaucoma. He aims to minimise the effect that glaucoma has on a patient’s life and lifestyle.

Cataract surgery

Dr Reeves was inspired to pursue ophthalmology while still a medical student at the University of Otago. He was attracted by the ability to make a great difference to patients’ quality of life and the fascinating complexity of the eye and visual system.

He studied medicine at the University of Otago and graduated in 1998. After graduation, Dr Reeves worked as a junior doctor in Palmerston North and Christchurch. He then went to the UK, where he met his future wife in Cornwall.

He became Clinical Head of the Department for Ophthalmology at Counties Manukau DHB in 2019.

Dr Reeves is married to Trish, a General Practitioner, and they have two teenage sons.

When he’s not supporting his sons in their extracurricular activities he enjoys creating culinary masterpieces for his family and friends.

He has recently rediscovered his teenage sporting skills and been selected for the Auckland Masters Hockey team!

He also enjoys photography, stand up paddle boarding, scuba diving and exploring the beaches around Auckland.
